Tree Help for Fort Sill Households

Fort Sill has been an Army post since Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan staked it out on January 8, 1869, and it covers almost 94,000 acres just north of Lawton. The post is Lawton's largest employer, with more than 5,000 full-time employees, and many of those households live in the towns around it rather than on post. This page explains how our tree removal and trimming work fits Fort Sill families: most of our work for them is at homes they own or rent off post, and we are straightforward about what happens on post.

If you live on post

The garrison lists Corvias Fort Sill and the Army's Housing Division as the contacts for on-post family housing. If a tree near your on-post quarters is dead, damaged or hanging over the roof, report it through the housing office first. The housing office can tell you who is responsible for that tree, and you should not hire outside tree work for a home you do not own without their approval.

Getting on post is also controlled. The garrison requires contractors without a Common Access Card to complete Fort Sill Form 118 to request unescorted installation contract access, and everyone with access must pass a background check and be issued a pass. We do not do or schedule any on-post work unless the job has been approved by the right office and our installation access has been granted. If you are not sure whether a tree is your responsibility, the housing office is the place to ask.

If you own or rent off post

Most Fort Sill families we hear from live in Lawton, Elgin, Medicine Park, Cache or one of the smaller towns nearby. For those homes we handle the full range of tree work: removing dead or dangerous trees, trimming limbs off roofs and driveways, cleaning up after storms and grinding stumps. If you rent, we can send the written estimate to your landlord or property manager so the approval does not hold things up.

Before a PCS move

A permanent change of station often comes with a list of things to fix before the house is sold or turned back to the landlord. A dead tree in the back yard, a stump in the lawn or branches resting on the roof can show up on an inspection. Trimming and stump grinding are quick jobs that are easy to schedule around a move, and we can work while you are packing as long as we have access to the yard.

While a spouse is deployed

Storms do not wait for a convenient time. Comanche County's severe weather season usually runs from late April into early June, and a limb on the roof is stressful to deal with alone. If a tree comes down while your service member is away, call us and we will walk through what needs to happen first. If a line is involved, the utility comes first.

A historic post

Fort Sill was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. Old Fort Sill's historic area is part of what makes the post distinctive. That is one more reason any tree work on post goes through the garrison's own channels first.

Fort Sill Questions

Can you trim a tree at my on-post house?

Only if the housing office approves it and our installation access has been granted first; without both, we do not come on post. Report the tree through housing first. In many cases they will handle it through their own maintenance.

Can my landlord approve the estimate while I am in the field?

Yes. Give us the property manager's contact and we will send the written estimate to both of you so the work can move ahead.

Can you finish before our moving date?

We schedule around moves when the calendar allows. Tell us the date you need the work done by when you request the estimate.
